Description
Noravank is set in a dramatic red-rock canyon with steep cliffs and rugged terrain, creating a perfect habitat for birds of prey and mountain species. Kostoberina and Suri orao soar above, while Modrokos and Red-tailed Wheatear perch on rocky ledges. Access
Noravank is located in a picturesque canyon in the Vayots Dzor region, about 120 km southeast of Yerevan. The easiest way to reach Noravank is by car. The drive from Yerevan takes around 2 hours via the M2 highway. There is a parking area near the monastery. Press P on the map for directions. There is no direct public transport to Noravank. You can take a bus or marshrutka from Yerevan to Yeghegnadzor, then hire a taxi for the final 12 km to the site.
The best way to explore Noravank is on foot. The canyon offers scenic walking trails and excellent birdwatching spots. A short visit takes about 1–2 hours, but for birdwatching and hiking, plan for at least 3–4 hours.
