This is a city of Aurora park. The reservoir has a 3.5-mile (5.6 km) trail that goes all the way around it. It is only open March through October.
Quincy Reservoir is a great spot in the middle of a suburb. Many ducks year round, especially in winter. The trail runs along trees and small wetlands, so you can see interesting sparrows and other migrating species, especially in May. Common birds include Canada Goose, American Coot, Red-tailed Hawk, Red-winged Blackbird, Mourning Dove, American White Pelican, Say's Phoebe, Western Kingbird, Double-crested Cormorant , and many ducks. You can also occassionally see Bald Eagle, various grebes, and a few species of swallows in the summer.
Quincy Reservoir is located in the city of Aurora and is open seasonally from March 1 – October 31. Depending on the month the park opens between 5:00 a.m. (summer) and 6:30 a.m. (spring and fall). To park there, you need to buy a pass. ($15 Saturday/Sunday/Holiday during Summer and only $10 Monday - Friday during Summer). Just pay at the ranger's station when you park. But you can walk into the area for free. So if it's a weekend or summer break, you can park at the school across the street (Summit Elementary School) and walk in for free. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates.
The 3.5-mile (5.6 km) trail goes all the way around the reservoir, but the last part of the trail takes you out of the Reservoir area and onto the sidewalk of a busy street. So most people walk a while (clock-wise) then turn around and come back. There is only one portable toilet on the trail. It's about 3/4 of a mile around the trail (clockwise). Then there are no more toilets. Part of the trail are shady and parts are in the full sun. The trail is mostly flat and easy to walk.
