The Joe Overstreet Road leads through an agricultural area to Lake Kissimmee. The road is good for a variety of bird observations.

Description

The drive on Joe Overstreet Road is 5.5 miles through an agricultural area (cropping, livestock). Various species of birds can be seen along the road such as Sandhill Crane, Wood Stork, Eastern Meadowlark, Red-shouldered Hawk, Bald Eagle and Great Horned Owl. There is an observation platform at Lake Kissimmee where you can see Osprey, Anhinga, Double-crested Cormorant, Tricolored Heron, Laughing Gull and others.

A telephoto lens with the largest possible focal length and/or a spotting scope is recommended for the Bald Eagle, which are usually at a greater distance.

Joe Overstreet Road branches off 46 miles south of Orlando from Road 523 to Lake Kissimmee. When driving on Joe Overstreet Road to Lake Kissimmee, you can pull over anywhere on the side of the road, but be considerate of heavy traffic. At the end of the street is a parking lot for the public boat ramp, a small store and restrooms. Attention: There are alligators near the lakeshore - please follow the rules of conduct.
