Description

Shorncote is a 20 hectare reed bed situated in the north western corner of the Cotswold Water Park. Besides reed beds the area consists of wet meadows, small lakes and working quarries (access and views restricted at working quarries) with 2 bird hides overlooking the larger lakes. The reedbeds provide homes and shelter for birds such as Bruant des roseaux, Phragmite des joncs, Rousserolle effarvatte, Grèbe castagneux, Râle d'eau, Bécassine des marais and Butor étoilé. Also Otter, Water Vole and many dragonflies can be observed.

Shorncote has attracted a number of migrant and winter rarities including Hibou des marais, Ibis falcinelle, Pie-grièche grise and various waders. This is also a regular area for roosting Étourneau sansonnet.
