Description

Nestled in the heart of Gateshead, Saltwell Park is one of Britain's finest examples of a Victorian park and a perfect place for the whole family to enjoy. Its historical and peaceful grounds have earned many awards such as Green Flag and Britain's Best Park. Relax and unwind in the beautiful green space. Saltwell Park was declared as 'The People's Choice' in 2018 for the second year in a row. The award by Keep Britain Tidy followed a public vote and makes Saltwell Park among the top 10 in the country - and the only park in the north of England to hold this award.

Birds have always been important to Saltwell Park. For generations families have gathered at the lake for the enjoyment of feeding the ducks. Over 70 species of birds have been recorded in the Park - ranging from wildfowl like Cygne tuberculé, Bernache du Canada and Bernache nonnette to common resident birds such as Merle noir, Mésange bleue and Rougegorge familier.
