Rutland  >  United Kingdom

From the dam on the east side of the Rutland Water reservoir you have a good overview over the reservoir and in winter a good chance to see Plongeon imbrin.

Description

A large part of the reservoir can be seen from the Rutland Water Dam. The eastern side of the reservoir is often the best place to find visiting divers, grebes and sea ducks, or occasionally Cormoran huppé amongst the more numerous Grand Cormoran. On the rocky face of the dam Pipit maritime is a possibility between late February and early April. During migration and in winter check the grassy slope behind the dam for passerines – it often attracts flocks of pipits and wagtails, and has held both Bruant des neiges, Bruant lapon and Linotte à bec jaune in the past.
