Description

A short walk from the first gate will take you up to the Llyn Coedty reservoir. Various species of water bird have been seen on the waters here at different times of year. After the reservoir bridge is a woodland verging the lake where Buse variable nest, and Faucon crécerelle can often be seen on the moor beyond the reservoir lake. In the small trees adjacent to the end of the lake, small commonly seen woodland birds can be seen. In winter, birds such as Sizerin flammé have been sighted here, and in summer, Coucou gris can be heard and even sighted in the trees within this mountain valley. If you're very lucky, some years have even confirmed sightings of Hibou des marais and Busard Saint-Martin in these mountain tops moving across the valleys and hunting on the moorlands. Continue right to the end of the reservoir and beyond for the chance to see Grand Corbeau crossing over into Snowdonia from Anglesey.

Accès

Drive up from Tal-y-bont and at the main fork in the road that you'll reach when at elevation, take the left turn and follow it until you reach a gate across the road (where it widens due to newly-developed road surfaces). You can park in the barges for free and walk through the gate (closing it after you) to head towards Llyn Coedty. The path to the reservoir is flat, but cobbled so not suitable for wheelchairs.

Informations supplémentaires

The road up the hill is single track in places so be prepared to reverse for oncoming traffic, especially agricultural. Please note that the hills up are steep and you will need to drive carefully in a lower gear up and round some of the corners - this can be done in smaller engine cars but be aware of faster moving traffic coming downhill and stick to your side of the road at all times on bends.
