Description

Bryngarw Country Park is situated on the west bank of the Afon Garw, at the mouth of the Garw Valley in the Bridgend County Borough. The western boundary is marked by the Brynmenyn-Bettws road and the River Garw is its eastern boundary. Bryngarw has approximately 2.5 hectares of native wildflower meadows to the west of the park. The Country Park and Bryngarw House occupies the remaining hectares of the estate. Bryngarw House and its associated formal gardens (including the lawn, shrubbery, lake and oriental gardens) account for 1.5 hectares of the park.

The rest of the park is predominantly wooded. The 30 hectares of mixed woodlands at Bryngarw comprise of a range of mature native trees including mature sweet chestnuts, ancient oaks and towering beeches. Many of these trees are hundreds of years old and of huge importance to wildlife. In the woodlands forest birds such as Pic épeiche, Sittelle torchepot, Grimpereau des bois, Roitelet huppé and Mésange noire can be spotted.

The park also has a number of water features, including wildlife ponds in the Oriental Garden, an ornamental lake, the River Garw and an ecologically important wet woodland. The waters supports a range of birds including Martin-pêcheur d'Europe, Héron cendré, Bergeronnette des ruisseaux and Cincle plongeur.
