A vast Buddist Park near Bangkok, one of top spots in Nakhon Pathom Province. Great for birdwatching with open fields, lakes, and diverse urban bird species.
Phutthamonthon Park is a vast, serene parkland west of Bangkok, with wide lawns, scattered groves of mature trees, quiet canals, and large open lakes. The landscape feels spacious and calm, with a mix of manicured gardens and more natural patches that attract wildlife.
The variety of habitats with open grassland, wooded areas, wetlands, and water bodies, makes it a rewarding birdwatching spot year-round. Resident species like Asian Koel, White-throated Kingfisher, and Coppersmith Barbet are commonly seen, while the lakes often host Little Cormorant and Purple Heron. In the cooler months, migratory visitors such as Brown Shrike and Asian Brown Flycatcher add to the diversity. Oriental Scops-Owl, Blyth's Paradise-Flycatcher and Hainan Blue Flycatcher are among the iconic birds of this park.
What makes this site especially enjoyable is its peaceful atmosphere compared to central Bangkok, its accessibility, and the ease of walking or cycling through different habitats in a single visit. It’s a place where casual visitors and birdwatchers alike can slow down and enjoy both nature and space.
Phutthamonthon Park is located about 25 km west of central Bangkok, in Nakhon Pathom province. It’s easily reachable by taxi or ride-hailing apps from the city, typically taking 30–45 minutes depending on traffic
There is ample parking available inside the park, near the main entrances and around key landmarks, so arriving by car is very convenient. Press P on the map for directions. Public transport is possible but less direct. You can take a bus from Bangkok toward Nakhon Pathom or Salaya and then continue by a short taxi or motorbike ride to the entrance.
The park is large and best explored either by bicycle or a combination of walking and cycling. Renting a bike (or bringing one) allows you to comfortably cover the different habitats, especially the lakes and quieter corners. Walking is pleasant too, but distances between spots can be long.
For a visit, allow at least 2–3 hours for a relaxed exploration, or half a day if you want to take your time birdwatching and enjoy the peaceful setting. The circular route shown on the map is about 6 km.
