Description

The area is inhabited by thermophilic species that are not that common in the broader area. The landscape is nice and some species in other taxon are common here and sometimes very rare around. The area holds one of biggest density of Rossignol philomèle in Switzerland.

Accès

The area is best visited on foot (and partly with wheelchair) or eventually by bicycle (cars are not allowed on the military field). Access by car is the easiest. For parking see the P on the map. But access by bus (from Yverdon station for exemple) is also fairly easy.

Informations supplémentaires

On the hill, there is a big population of Himantoglossum hircinum, a rare orchid in Switzerland. There is also a big population of Alytes obstetricans, which is not such a common toad in Switzerland. A visit by night in the village of Chamblon especially close to the many old walls and if it is rainy will probably allow to hear one of those little guys.
