Description

The Nature Reserve Knuthöjdsmossen is a tranquil bog area that consists of many small lakes in a very beautiful landscape. The Plongeon catmarin is Knuthöjdsmossen's celebrity. Knuthöjdsmossen is also a bog with many ducks, including Sarcelle d'hiver and Garrot à oeil d'or. Vanneau huppé, Chevalier culblanc, Bécassine des marais and Courlis cendré are also found here. The call of the Courlis cendré is accompanied by the cry of the Goéland cendré and the cheeping of Pluvier doré. Grue cendrée is also found in the nature reserve. However, Knuthöjdsmossen is particularly well-known as a breeding ground for the Plongeon catmarin. A planked path leads round the area and from it there is a good chance to catch sight of one or more chicks. Sometimes the birds sit on the eggs close to the path. Note that the northern section of the trail is closed between April 1 and September 1. And to avoid disturbing the birds you must not leave the path, particularly during the period 1 April to 15 July when the Plongeon catmarin is breeding.

Accès

Follow road 63 towards Gåsborn-Sävsjön for 1.7 km. Turn right at a small sign to the nature reserve. Follow the road for 200 metres then turn left. The nature reserve is reached after 800 metres, where there is a toilet and car park. A circular trail of 2,5 km (a raised wooden path) runs around the area. The first part of the planked path onto the bog is broader and suitable for wheelchairs. The best time to visit Knuthöjdsmossen is in April and May. If you are lucky, you can see a nest right near the footpath. NOTE: The northern section of the trail is closed between April 1 and September 1.
