Description

Frövisjön is a renatured bird lake in Västmanland. In 2007, the restoration of the lake began, which was completed in 2010. After the restoration, the lake quickly became popular with birdwatchers. Already more than 200 bird species have been reported. Bird life in the lake is at its richest during the migration periods in spring (March-May) and autumn (July-October). You can see many ducks, geese and swans and during the autumn when water level is lower, many waders. In Frövisjön, mainly water birds breed like Grèbe huppé, Grèbe esclavon, ducks and Cygne chanteur. Grèbe jougris is seen annually in the lake during the breeding period. Busard des roseaux has nested in the lake after restoration and several pairs of Grue cendrée usually breed. Guifette noire has made breeding attempts. Other birds that have nested recently are Mouette pygmée, Fuligule milouin and Grèbe à cou noir. Regular visitors are Balbuzard pêcheur and Pygargue à queue blanche.

Accès

Frövisjön long lacked fixed birdwatching devices such as platforms, hideouts or bird towers. But since 2018 there is a platform. Along the southern part of the lake, on road 671 (between Skultuna and Ansta), there are two observation sites. The clubhouse grove is the grove between the road and the eastern part of the lake where Skultuna nature club previously had a small hut. There is a platform overlooking the eastern and middle part of the lake. By the road there is a small parking pocket that can accommodate some cars.

Along the way, south of the western part of the lake, at an altitude, there is a forest road leading south. The road is closed with a road boom. There you have an overview of the whole lake and there is room for a few cars. The observation site is called "Bommen" by local birdwatchers.
