Description
The Fågelkullen observation site and viewpoint is on a hill on the western side of Abiskojåkka. You can walk via the Abiskojåkka canyon or the trail to the west. The path to the Fågelkullen viewpoint is a small detour north towards Torneträsk. There is a windbreak on site. The delta itself is a bird protection area with access prohibited from May 1st to July 31st. Normally seen and heard here Chevalier gambette, Chevalier sylvain, Plongeon arctique, Plongeon catmarin, Sarcelle d'hiver, Canard siffleur, and Sterne arctique. During May/June and August arctic waders such as Bécasseau minute, Bécasseau de Temminck, Combattant varié, Phalarope à bec étroit and Courlis corlieu rest in the area. Occasionally one can see Buse pattue, Faucon émerillon, Labbe à longue queue, Fuligule milouinan, Macreuse noire, Macreuse brune, Harelde boréale and Hirondelle de rivage.

You can park at the Abisko tourist station. Click on the P in the map for directions. From there it is about a 1 kilometer walk to the platform along a gravel road and path. You can also make a nice hike along the Abiskojåkka canyon. Here you can see and hear Gorgebleue à miroir, Rougequeue à front blanc, Accenteur mouchet and Cincle plongeur. From August 1, when the trespassing ban ends, you can walk out on the delta.
