Description
Asunden is an island that is about two km long in a north-south direction and at its widest about one km. Asunden is grazed by sheep. The island has a rich flora and a very rich bird life on the beach meadows in the northwestern part of the island. The coastal meadows are part of the European ecological network Natura 2000. When low water levels during migration there may be plenty of waders on the west side of the road bank. You can see waders like Avocette élégante, Huîtrier pie, Pluvier argenté, Vanneau huppé, Grand Gravelot, Combattant varié, Barge rousse, Chevalier gambette, Chevalier sylvain, Chevalier aboyeur, Bécasseau variable, Bécasseau cocorli and Courlis cendré forage and rest. Ducks and divers overwinter in the bay.

Asunden is an island off Slite in northeastern Gotland, slightly northeast of Enholmen and Grunnet. The island is connected to Gotland with a road. You can park when you arrive on the island. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the parking. Walking around the island is a nice walk of about 6 km. You get to see the special rock formations, cliffs and coastal meadows.
