Description

Just east of Uddevalla is the nature reserve Bäveån Nedre. Extensive industrial exploitation of the shale gravel resources during the 1960s has left behind two deep lakes, which are connected to the Bäveån river that flows through the area. Open fields are mixed with wetlands and marshes bordered by forested mountain ranges. Grazing livestock prevents overgrowth and preserves the open landscape. The area not only houses a rich breeding bird fauna, but it is also worth a visit during spring and autumn migration. The bird observation tower of Älje-Porsen is located on a perfect spot. Among the breeding birds in the area are Tarier des prés, Bruant des roseaux, Pipit des arbres, Pie-grièche écorcheur, Pic noir, Pic épeichette, Bergeronnette des ruisseaux, Bécassine des marais, Chevalier culblanc and Martin-pêcheur d'Europe. During migration many species of geese, ducks, waders, songbirds and birds of prey can turn up. Occasional guests that have been seen in the area are Cigogne noire, Busard pâle, Milan royal, Milan noir, Aigle royal, Râle des genêts, Marouette ponctuée, Merle à plastron and Roselin cramoisi.
