Description

Parque Forestal Adolfo Suárez is a mix of Mediterranean open and closed forests, with two artificial lakes that dry out in the summer, and a small permanent stream with a nice, healthy riparian forest around it. You can see some waterfowl and waders in the lakes, as well as forest birds in the pine and riparian forests that cover the southern area. There are some breeding couples of Milan noir and Aigle botté. dotted around the location, and some of their nest can be spotted from afar. In spite of that, the best and more frequent wat of spotting them is when they soar over the open areas in search of a meal.

The northern side of it is more open, dryer and full of bushes; this means trees are more scarce, so birds from more open areas prefer this place to breed and feed. One example of it is the elusive Fauvette passerinette. On the other side, south of the river trees become more frequent, and the opposite happens to the undergrowth. Birds, such as Grimpereau des jardins and Mésange noire are way more abundant here.

However, the best, and more recommended area, is the riparian forest around the stream and lakes, as it has both open and dense areas and the water makes it attractive to even waders and ducks. Most of the birds can be seen here, and some can only be spotted when walking through this part of the site. Among these you can find Loriot d'Europe, Rossignol philomèle and Gallinule poule-d'eau.

Accès

You can access the area by bike, bus, or car, and there are some parking spaces next to the entrance. It is quite close to the village of Pozuelo de Alarcón, so the drive from there lasts no more that 10 minutes. It has opening and closing times, so they must be checked before going. The only entrance are the doors next to the park.
