Description

This natural area covers the mouth of the Guadiaro river, the wetland (that is an old island) and the beach. Despite its small size, its characteristics, closer to the Mediterranean Sea than to the Atlantic Ocean, make it an area of high bird's richness, with almost 230 species recorded. The bird species are typical of places of brackish water with little influence of tide and reedbeds: ducks, herons, rails and crakes, waders, seabirds, gulls, terns and waterbird passerines.

Among these species you will find: residents Gravelot à collier interrompu, Talève sultane, Martin-pêcheur d'Europe or Bouscarle de Cetti; migrants Crabier chevelu, Héron pourpré, Marouette ponctuée, Échasse blanche, Goéland d'Audouin, Sterne naine, Hirondelle rousseline or Rousserolle turdoïde; wintering Balbuzard pêcheur, Râle d'eau, Rémiz penduline or Bruant des roseaux. You have breeding, among other, like Blongios nain and Rousserolle effarvatte. Some possible rarities are Sarcelle marbrée, Bécassine sourde or Marouette de Baillon. The beach is a good place for seabirds, both in winter and on migration, like Puffin cendré, Puffin des Baléares or Macreuse noire.
