Despite its small size La Marjal dels Moros is home to some large bird populations of several species, including seriously endangered species. One of the highlights in springtime are the flocks of different types of wading birds that come here to breed, including colonies of Sterne pierregarin, Sterne naine, Glaréole à collier, Guifette moustac and Échasse blanche. There is also a large breeding population of Nette rousse, which is increasingly rare in Valencia. The Sarcelle marbrée is another endangered species that breeds here, and the Marjal marks its northernmost location in Europe. In wintertime you can see large flocks of Aigrette garzette and Canard souchet, as well as spectacular gatherings of Grand Cormoran, and it is not uncommon to see Flamant rose, Grande Aigrette or Ibis falcinelle. Other nice birds you can see include Busard des roseaux, Grèbe castagneux, Gallinule poule-d'eau, Talève sultane and Martin-pêcheur d'Europe.
