Description
Maristany is a small wetland covering a few tens of hectares. Despite its small size and the fact that it’s surrounded by built-up areas, it possesses a wealth of bird life. It is a resting place for many water birds and a feeding and nesting area for both native and migratory species. From a central point, by going along a track, one can watch most of the waterfowl that congregate there.
In winter there’s an abundance of coots, ducks, grebes, moorhens, cormorants and herons and if you are lucky you can spot wintering Gorgebleue à miroir. In spring and summertime, as the water level falls, the birds that can be watched increase considerably. Birds like Héron pourpré, Bihoreau gris, Aigrette garzette, Blongios nain, Échasse blanche, Chevalier guignette, Chevalier gambette, Petit Gravelot, Talève sultane, Flamant rose, terns and swallows congregate within a small area.

Español: Maristany es un pequeño humedal de unas pocas decenas de hectáreas. A pesar de su reducido tamaño y de estar rodeado de zonas urbanizadas, presenta una rica avifauna. Es un lugar de descanso para numerosas aves acuáticas y de alimentación y nidificación tanto para especies autóctonas como migratorias. Desde el centro, siguiendo un sendero, se pueden observar la mayoría de las aves acuáticas que se reúnen allí.
En invierno abundan las fochas, patos, zampullines, gallinetas, cormoranes y garzas, y con suerte se puede avistar al Gorgebleue à miroir invernando. En primavera y verano, cuando baja el nivel del agua, las aves que se pueden observar aumentan considerablemente: Héron pourpré, Bihoreau gris, Aigrette garzette, Blongios nain, Échasse blanche, Chevalier guignette, Chevalier gambette, Petit Gravelot, Talève sultane, Flamant rose, charranes y golondrinas se reunen dentro de una pequeña área.

Maristany is only a 5-minute walk from Port d'Alcúdia Beach. The site is located near the Lidl supermarket. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. From the Lidl you can explore the area on foot.
