Description

The Laguna de Fuente de Piedra is the largest in Andalusia. The nature reserve is located in the northwest of the province of Malaga. It's the biggest Flamant rose reserve of Europe. The lake shape is elliptical, with 2.5 km width and 6.7 km long. The rain is the only water entering the system, divided between direct precipitation on the lake, surface runoff and underground supply. The only way out of the pond water evaporation occurs, which determines its closed or endorheic character. After periods of little rain, the lake can partly dry out. The lagoon attracts a lot of species of ducks, gulls, and many other birds. In total, more than 170 species of birds pass throughout the year.
