Description
La Higuerilla is a great spot to look for birds of prey. In 2024 I found 3 different Vautour moine nests in the oaks on the other side of the river, although some diligent scanning is required to find them. Also easily seen in spring and summer are Milan noir, Circaète Jean-le-Blanc and Aigle botté.
Be sure to check the riverbanks for fishing Cigogne noire. On- and around the river Héron cendré, Aigrette garzette and Grand Cormoran are present most of the time, as well as Héron pourpré sometimes. Pay attention to the calls of Perdrix rouge, which often can be found in the scrubland or even crossing the road.

La Higuerilla is easily reached from Villareal de San Carlos. It is the third viewpoint (on the left side of the road) after passing the Torrejon-Tietar dam. You can park next to the viewpoint. Press P on the map for directions.
