Description

Gravera de las Galletas is one of the rare wetlands for migratory waders on the southern slope of Tenerife. It has a peculiar location, right along the road, next to the beach. The area was formed as a result of extraction of gravel, becoming a set of small brackish ponds that maintained permanently. The water level has significant fluctuations, due both to the changing rhythm of the tides and to greater or lesser autumn rainfall. Among the birds you can encounter are Grand Gravelot, Chevalier guignette, Aigrette garzette, Chevalier aboyeur, Bécasseau variable, Tournepierre à collier, Bécasseau cocorli, Pie-grièche grise and Bergeronnette des ruisseaux. Also more rare waders on the Canary Islands like Bécasseau maubèche, Échasse blanche, Pluvier argenté, Bécasseau de Temminck, Chevalier culblanc, Chevalier sylvain and Chevalier à pattes jaunes have been observed here.
