Description

The finca “La Moheda Alta” is part of the network of protected areas in Extremadura. It is an old dehesa with surrounding agricultural areas, both grain fields and rice fields. A walk has been plotted in the area that ends at a bird watching screen. From there the rice fields can be overlooked, which is especially interesting in winter because of the large numbers of Grue cendrée that forage here. At the beginning is an information center about the area. In autumn the annual Grue cendrée festival “festival de las Grullas” is organized here. The area is interesting in winter because of the Grue cendrée , but a visit is also worthwhile in other seasons. There are also regularly other birds on the fields: waders, Cigogne noire and sometimes Flamant rose are seen here. The dehesa itself is at its best in the spring. This is where the typical dehesa birds live: Huppe fasciée, Pie ibérique, Pie-grièche méridionale and Pie-grièche à tête rousse.
