Description

The Bevke Learning Trail crosses the broad levels of Ljubljansko Barje. The 6 km route is level and mainly follows macadam roads or tracks. You walk through a mosaic of grassland, stands of trees, fields, ditches and hedgerows – home to numerous birds. Cultural landscape birds are the most interesting bird species that can be found on meadows of Ljubljana marsh. You can see Courlis cendré, Vanneau huppé, Tarier des prés, Tarier pâtre and Râle des genêts here. The Bruant jaune, Bruant ortolan, Bruant des roseaux, Pie-grièche écorcheur and numerous bird species from the Sylviidae family hide in the shrubs. Flocks consisting thousands of Vanneau huppé, Pluvier doré, Grive litorne or other migrating birds can be admired in the area especially in the time of spring migration. During flood periods birds like Chevalier guignette, Bécassine des marais, Nette rousse, Sarcelle d'hiver, Sarcelle d'été, Bécasse des bois and Chevalier sylvain can be spotted.

Accès

Bevke (16 km from the centre of Ljubljana). Turn off the regional Ljubljana–Vrhnika road towards Bevke (signposted). Drive to the end of the village, to a fork where the wider road on the right turns towards Blatna Brezovica. Take the narrower, left-hand road and drive past the houses to the start of a macadam road where the Bevke Learning Trail begins (information board). There is a small car park on the left. The information board at the start of the trail offers brief descriptions of the Ljubljansko Barje Nature Park and the learning trail of 6 km itself. Beneath it is an arrow (a “guiding star” that will reappear along the entire trail) directing you straight ahead on a broad macadam road that leads into a vast, open wetland area.
