Nature reserve of 202 hectares with mangroves, mudflats, ponds and forests located in the northwest of Singapore. It has high variety of bird species .
The Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is of global importance as a stop-over point for migratory birds. Including migratory birds from Siberia on their way to Australia. Among the many birds that can be spotted are Painted Stork, Whimbrel, Common Greenshank, Common Redshank, Tibetan Sand Plover, Curlew Sandpiper, Pacific Golden Plover, White-throated Kingfisher, Collared Kingfisher, Yellow Bittern and Cinnamon Bittern. Lucky visitors to the reserve may be able to spot the resident family of smooth otters, as well as the rare Lesser Whistling-Duck and Milky Stork. The reserve forms part of the Kranji-Mandai Important Bird Area (IBA), identified as such by BirdLife International. Observation hides are available where visitors can observe the birds and saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) that are occasionally seen in the reserve.
Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is located in the northwest of Singapore. Opening hours: 7 am to 7 pm daily (entering or remaining in the nature reserve after 7pm is not allowed); Last entry: 6.30pm. The area has two information points with parkings. 1 Visitor Centre: 60 Kranji Way, #01-00, Singapore 739453 and 2 Wetland Centre: 301 Neo Tiew Crescent Singapore 718925. By bus: Mondays to Saturdays: board SMRT Bus 925 from Kranji MRT Station. Alight at Kranji Reservoir Carpark B. Walk across the road to the Visitor Centre. Sundays and Public Holidays: Board SMRT Bus 925M from Kranji MRT Station. The bus stops at the Wetland Centre entrance. Please note that SMRT Bus 925M operates only from Woodlands Interchange on Sundays and Public Holidays.
There are several trails to explore the reserve. The coastal trail (1300 meter), The forest trail (300 meter), The mid canopy trail (150 meter) and The migratory bird trail (1950 meter). There is also a raised boardwalk through the mangroves. All these trails are indicated on the map below and have a total length of about 5 km. Free guided walks are conducted at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve every weekend (see the link below for more info).
