Delta with 1100 hectare of marshy wetlands, part of the Comana Natural Park. The second largest wetland in southern Romania after the Danube Delta.
In the Neajlov Delta (also known as Comana Pond) 141 species of birds have been recorded. Half of which are internationally protected. Also 19 species of fish and 31 species of mammals were recorded in the Neajlov Delta. The area is partially landscaped as a park, but there are large areas completely wild and far from traffic and houses. Among the birds you can encounter are Martin-pêcheur d'Europe, Grand Cormoran, Cormoran pygmée, Guifette moustac, Blongios nain, Crabier chevelu, Cygne tuberculé and Grèbe huppé.
The Neajlov Delta is very interesting to see all year round, especially for those who like semi-wild areas. However, the greatest diversity of birds and animals is, in my opinion, in the spring during the nesting period.
The Neajlov Delta is located 30 km south of Bucharest. There is car access to the border of the park and there are also bicycle tracks for extended distances. The time required for the visit depends on what you are looking for, a simple walk can be done in 2-3 hours, but a photographer can spend many days here.
