The Bucharest Botanical Garden was founded in 1860. Starting with 1954, it came under the management of the University of Bucharest.
In the middle of the crowded city of Bucharest you will find the Dimitrie Brandza Botanical Garden. A green oasis of approximately 18 hectares with many old trees, a small lake, spontaneous flora and a botanical museum. Many species of birds can be seen in this place throughout the year. There are secluded areas where some species nest. Many species of flowers are planted and cared for by specialists and therefore you can also see a lot of insects. Small mammals like squirrels and marmots can be seen often. Among the birds you can encounter are Pic syriaque, Faisan de Colchide, Foulque macroule, Canard colvert, Merle noir, Héron cendré, Pic vert, Tourterelle des bois and Cormoran pygmée.
Spring is the best time for photography. You can see birds, nests and chicks. Morning hours are the best, especially during weekdays.
Dimitrie Brandza Botanical Garden is located west of the city center of Bucharest. You can park your car nearby, but there is also public transport (For example bus 336 from Universitate). An hour and a half is enough for a walk, but you can stay here for many hours to take photos.
The garden is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 09:00 to 13:00.
