550 hectare lake formed after the building of a dam over Siret River and is part of the Natura 2000 site, Acumulările Rogojesti-Bucecea.
Bucecea Lake is relatively large but not very deep and that's why dabbling wildfowl love it. It also has extensive reedbeds and there are several pairs of Busard des roseaux breeding here. The lake is a very good spot for breeding and migrating aquatic birds in general. Large numbers of wildfowl, grebes, cormorants, herons, waders, terns and gulls gather here during migration. In winter, you can find aquatic birds until the lake freezes, but also Busard Saint-Martin and hawks hunting around and sometimes Pygargue à queue blanche.
Bucecea Lake is located 25 km from the city of Suceava and approximately the same distance from the city of Botosani. It's a reservoir on the Siret River and the lake can be accessed either from the west (Șerbănești village) or from the east (Ionășeni village). Coming from Suceava, you can follow the national road until Șerbănești, where you follow the paved road going sout-east until you reach Berești village. From where you can already see reedbeds and water on the left side of the road. After a kilometer or so you exit the village and take a left on the gravel road that goes along the lake's shore, which is concreted. You can park the car before entering the narrower road that goes along the lake, especially if you want to go by foot.
The road that follows the lake's shore is not very wide so you have to be careful how you park the car without blocking other cars that want to pass by. The road goes over the dam and here you have to pass through a fenced area that is usually open (I never had problems with people asking me questions). After leaving this area you continue along the lake's shore until you reach the area where the reedbeds begin. From here, you leave the lake and the road goes north-west, towards Ionășeni village, on a dirt road that might not be accessible in rainy days or in winter. In good weather conditions you can do the same route in the opposite direction.
