Zbiornik Dobczycki is quite a deep water reservoir. The maximum depth of the reservoir is 29 m, and the average depth is approximately 10 m. The reservoir is located in a mountainous area largely covered with forest, and the banks of the reservoir are usually steep, hence the access to thereservoir is limited in many places. But during low water levels Zbiornik Dobczycki is a very interesting place to observe birds such as Grande Aigrette, Goéland pontique, Sterne pierregarin, Goéland cendré, Héron cendré, Goéland cendré, Chevalier aboyeur, Chevalier sylvain, Bécassine des marais (mainly in autumn), and for observing diving birds like Harle bièvre, Fuligule morillon, Macreuse brune, Garrot à oeil d'or, Foulque macroule, Fuligule morillon, Plongeon catmarin, Plongeon arctique, Grèbe huppé and Grèbe esclavon (spring, autumn, winter).
Rare birds have also been observed in the Dobczyce Reservoir and its immediate vicinity, such as: Bernache à cou roux, Plongeon imbrin, Plongeon à bec blanc, Goéland ichthyaète, Échasse blanche,Labbe pomarin, Hibou des marais, Pie-grièche à poitrine rose and Pipit maritime.

Polski: Dosyć głeboki zbiornik wodny o przeważnie stromych brzegach, położony w terenie górzystym porośniętym w dużej mierze lasem, stąd dostępność do lustra wody w wielu miejscach ograniczona. Miejsce bardzo ciekawe do obserwacji podczas niskich stanów wody Grande Aigrette, Héron cendré, Goéland pontique, Goéland cendré, Sterne pierregarin, Chevalier aboyeur, Chevalier sylvain, Bécassine des marais, (głównie jesienią) oraz do obserwacji ptaków nurkujących - Grand Cormoran, Harle bièvre, Fuligule morillon, Macreuse brune, Garrot à oeil d'or, Foulque macroule, Plongeon catmarin, Plongeon arctique, Grèbe huppé, Grèbe esclavon (wiosna, jesień, zima).
Na Zbiorniku Dobczyckim i w jego najbliższej okolicy obserwowano też rzadkie ptaki takie jak: Bernache à cou roux, Plongeon imbrin, Plongeon à bec blanc, Goéland ichthyaète, Échasse blanche,Labbe pomarin, Hibou des marais, Pie-grièche à poitrine rose, Pipit maritime.

Observations can be made from several places in Dobczyce (dam), Brzączowice (technical bridge), Czechówka (viewing point next to bicycle paths), Droginia (parking lot under the church), Osieczany (parking lot near the ponds). It is best to travel around the Reservoir by car due to its size and the distance between observation points. Parking spaces marked with the letter P on the map - click on a P for directions.

The Dobczyce Reservoir is a reservoir of drinking water for Krakow and other nearby towns, hence its inaccessibility for recreation - swimming, sailing, hunting and fishing are prohibited. This creates good conditions for the birds, which are not often disturbed.
