Jezioro Żarnowieckie is a reservoir that does not freeze in winter due to the constant inflow of warm water. This attracts tens of thousands of water birds, such as cormorants, swans, geese and ducks. The area is often patrolled by birds of prey. Many species of passerines can be found in the numerous bushes, and Panure à moustaches nest in the numerous reed beds. Among the birds you can observe are Cygne tuberculé, Cygne chanteur, Fuligule morillon, Fuligule milouinan, Canard siffleur, Oie cendrée, Harle piette, Harle bièvre, Fuligule milouin, Foulque macroule, Pygargue à queue blanche, Buse variable, Milan royal, Épervier d'Europe and Busard des roseaux.

Stały dopływ ciepłej wody sprawia, że tafla zbiornika nie zamarza zimą, co sprzyja gromadzeniu się dziesiątek tysięcy ptaków wodnych, takich jak: kormorany, łabędzie nieme i krzykliwe, gęgawy, świstuny, bielaczki, nurogęsi, czernice, ogorzałki, głowienki oraz łyski. Teren często patrolują ptaki drapieżne - bieliki, myszołowy, kanie rude, błotniaki stawowe i krogulce. W licznych krzewach można spotkać wiele gatunków ptaków wróblowych, a licznych trzcinowiskach gniazdują wąsatki.

Jezioro Żarnowieckie is located close to the Baltic Sea. There are many good observation spots along the lake shoreline. The best are the river mouth area in the north of the reservoir and the beach in the south near the power plant.
