Description
Stjernøya is an island in western Finnmark county. The 248 square-kilometre island sits at the mouth of the Altafjorden on the south side of the Sørøysundet strait. The highest point on the island is the 960-metre tall mountain Kjerringfjordfjellet. Only about 80 residents live on the island. The main population area is at the village of Store Kvalfjord on the northeastern side of the island.
The best option is a boat trip around the island. Then you can see birds such as Pygargue à queue blanche, Guillemot de Troïl, Guillemot à miroir, Sterne arctique, Eider à lunettes, Eider à tête grise and Eider à duvet. On the island itself live Lagopède alpin and Bruant des neiges.
