Relaxing coastal walkway along the Tamaki Estuary along beaches, grazed land, sports field, and Omaru creek pond with Little Pied Cormorant colony.
Part of the coastal walkway along the western side of the Tamaki Estuary goes through Point England Reserve, where it passes sports fields and a playground, a beach, and then winds along fields full of Australasian Swamphen, Masked Lapwing, oystercatchers, and Common Starling. In the past, Red-breasted Dotterel have been breeding on the paddocks as well. When reaching Omaru creek, you can continue along the shore to Tahuna Torea (another birding place), return the same way, or turn left along Omaru creek until you reach the pond, from where you can return back to the parking lot. Located at the pond is a breeding colony of Little Pied Cormorant. There are always plenty of gulls, some waders, Welcome Swallow, Tui and more birds around in the reserve.
The suburb Point England is located on the western side of the Tamaki Estuary and about 20min from Auckland CBD by car. There are plenty of bus connections and the Glen Innes train station is about 1.5km away. There is plenty of parking at the sports field in the reserve, but you can also pass through following a longer stretch of the coastal walkway as it lies between Dunkirk and Tahuna Torea.
The coastal walkway is a wide paved path, while the track along the pond and creek is an unpaved track and partially over meadows that can be wet. The circular route is about 3km.
