The Zwarte Meer is a lake and nature reserve on the border of the provinces of Flevoland and Overijssel. In this wetland you will find many special species of birds, such as Butor étoilé, Rousserolle turdoïde and Panure à moustaches. These birds feel at home in the dense reed beds along the shores of the lake.
Vogeleiland (bird island) is an uninhabited island in the lake Zwarte Meer. The edges of the island are swampy. Due to the alternation of forest, reed and grassland, the island has a great attraction for birds. At least 60 species of birds breed here, including Gorgebleue à miroir, Rossignol philomèle, Pic épeichette and Autour des palombes. To guarantee peace and quiet, you can only visit the island with a boat trip from Natuurmonumenten.
From the dikes you have a good view of the area on both sides, in both Overijssel and Flevoland. Other birds you may encounter in the area are Bruant des roseaux, Phragmite des joncs, Rousserolle effarvatte, Pygargue à queue blanche, Canard pilet, Garrot à oeil d'or, Harle bièvre, Busard des roseaux, Harle piette, Sterne pierregarin, Guifette noire and Cygne de Bewick.

Nederlands: Het Zwarte Meer is een natuurgebied op de grens van de provincies Flevoland en Overijssel. Het is ontstaan bij de inpoldering van de Noordoostpolder. In dit waterrijke natuurgebied vind je vele bijzondere soorten vogels, zoals Butor étoilé, Rousserolle turdoïde en Panure à moustaches. Deze vogels voelen zich thuis in de dichte rietkragen langs de oevers van het meer.
Vogeleiland is een onbewoond eiland in het Zwarte Meer. De randen van het eiland zijn moerassig. Door de afwisseling van bos, riet en grasland heeft het eiland een grote aantrekkingskracht op vogels. Er broeden minstens zestig soorten vogels, waaronder Gorgebleue à miroir, Rossignol philomèle, Pic épeichette en Pygargue à queue blanche. Om de rust te waarborgen, kun je het eiland alleen bezoeken met een vaartocht van Natuurmonumenten.
Vanaf de dijken heb je aan beide kanten goed uitzicht op het gebied, in zowel Overijssel en Flevoland. Parking at the Kadoelerbrug. Click on the P in the map for directions. Walking to both dikes is possible here. Vogeleiland is only accessible with a boating excursion from Natuurmonumenten. The boat trip takes about 3 hours and costs about 25 euros. Can be booked via Natuurmonumenten, see the link below.
