Zandgat Nijstad is a former sand extraction area that has been transformed into a recreational area in recent years. You can find various birds around the two lakes. Water birds on the lakes and songbirds such as Chardonneret élégant and Linotte mélodieuse on the dike-like hill, in the reed beds and along the path that runs between the two lakes.

Nederlands: Zangat Nijstad is een voormalig zandwingebied dat de afgelopen jaren is getransformeerd tot een recreatiegebied. Rondom de twee plassen kun je diverse vogels vinden. Watervogels op de plassen en zangvogels zoals Chardonneret élégant en Linotte mélodieuse op de dijkachtige heuvel, in de rietkragen en langs het pad dat tussen beide plassen loopt.

Zandgat Nijstad is located directly west of the city of Hoogeveen. There is a spacious parking lot. Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking lot you have to walk a bit to the large iron gate further on the Koedijk, you can easily go around it on the left.

Nederlands: Zandgat Nijstad ligt direct ten westen van Hoogeveen. Er is een ruime parkeerplaats. Klik op de P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving. Vanaf de parkeerplaats moet je een stukje naar het grote ijzeren hek verder op de Koedijk lopen daar kan je er links gemakkelijk omheen.
