Description
Waalenburg is a meadow landscape in the middle of Texel where the water level is kept high for meadow and water birds. Good views of the partly flooded meadows from the road. Birds often clearly visible. In spring this nesting area is for meadow birds such as Barge à queue noire, Vanneau huppé, Chevalier gambette and Huîtrier pie. You can also see different duck species on the flooded meadows.

Nederlands: Waalenburg is een weidelandschap midden op Texel. Het waterpeil wordt hier hoog gehouden voor de weide- en watervogels. Direct vanaf de weg goed uitzicht over de deels ondergelopen weilanden. Vogels vaak goed zichtbaar. In de lente is dit broedgebied voor weidevogels als Barge à queue noire, Vanneau huppé, Chevalier gambette en Huîtrier pie. Op de ondergelopen weilanden kun je ook verschillende eendensoorten zien.

A good starting point is Nature Center De Marel at Nieuwlanderweg 38. There is ample parking space here and you can also walk through the area. From the Nature Center there are many walking possibilities. The center itself is open all year round. Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. By bike, from the car, several places along De Staart (road name). It is also possible to make a 2 km circular walk through the area (Loopie Waalenburg, see the link below).

Nederlands: Goed startpunt is Natuurcentrum De Marel aan de Nieuwlanderweg 38. Hier is ruimschootse parkeergelegenheid en kan je ook door het gebied wandelen. Vanaf het Natuurcentrum zijn er vele rondwandelmogelijkheden. Het centrum zelf is het gehele jaar geopend. Dinsdag-zaterdag van 10-17 uur en op zondag van 11-16.30 uur. Met de fiets, vanuit de auto, meerdere plekken langs De Staart (wegnaam). Het is ook mogelijk een rondwandeling door het gebied te maken van 2 km (Loopie Waalenburg, zie de link beneden).
