Beautiful area with a transition from dune area to a polder. The clean and calcareous water flows from the dunes into the Volgerland. That attracts many birds (and special plants like orchids). The area is important for meadow birds and everywhere you can see Vanneau huppé and singing Alouette des champs. Also Barge à queue noire, Chevalier gambette, Huîtrier pie and Bergeronnette printanière. Spatule blanche and Canard souchet forage in the creek. In winter you can see Pluvier doré, Bécasseau variable, Chevalier arlequin, Chevalier aboyeur and other waders in the Volgerland. And large groups of Bernache cravant. In spring and early summmer Vanneau huppé fiercely defend their young against Corneille noire flying overhead. Next to meadow birds in Volgerland you can see birds from reedbeds like Phragmite des joncs and Panure à moustaches and birds from thickets like Hypolaïs ictérine. The Volgerland is right next to the beach. At low tide you can see seals on the sandbanks off the coast. Moreover, in winter you can often see Plongeon catmarin, Harle huppé and various types of grebes without a telescope. And on the beach Bécasseau sanderling.

De wandeling die je hier kunt maken is een mooie combinatie van vogels kijken aan zee en het zien van rietvogels en weidevogels. Prachtig gebied met overgang van duingebied naar polder. Het schone en kalkhoudende water stroomt vanuit de duinen het Volgerland in. Dat trekt veel vogels (en bijzondere planten zoals orchideeën) aan. Het gebied is belangrijk voor weidevogels en overal zie je Vanneau huppé en zingende Alouette des champs. Ook Barge à queue noire, Chevalier gambette, Huîtrier pie en Bergeronnette printanière. Spatule blanche en Canard souchet foerageren in de kreek. In de winter zie je Pluvier doré, Bécasseau variable, Chevalier arlequin, Chevalier aboyeur en andere steltlopers in het Volgerland. En grote groepen Bernache cravant en Bernache nonnette. In het voorjaar en de vroege zomer verdedigen Vanneau huppé hun jongen fel tegen Corneille noire die boven hun hoofd vliegen. Naast weidevogels in Volgerland zie je rietvogels zoals Phragmite des joncs en Panure à moustaches en struweelvogels zoals Hypolaïs ictérine. Het Volgerland ligt pal naast het strand. Bij eb kun je zeehonden zien op de zandbanken voor de kust. Bovendien kun je hier in de winter vaak zonder telescoop Plongeon catmarin, Harle huppé en verschillende soorten futen zien. En op het strand Bécasseau sanderling.

The Volgerland is located on the northwest point of Goeree Overflakkee. You can park in the parking lot next to the lighthouse Westhoofd. From there a nice walk of 5 km runs through the Volgerland. The route is shown on the map and in the field marked with white arrows.

Nederlands: Het Volgerland ligt op de noordwestpunt van Goeree Overflakkee. Parkeren kan op het parkeerterrein naast de vuurtoren Westhoofd. Van daaruit loopt een mooie wandeling van 5 km door het Volgerland. De route wordt weergegeven op de kaart beneden. In het veld is de route gemarkeerd met witte pijlen.
