The 400-hectare dune reserve Oranjezon is located in the northwest of the Zeeland island of Walcheren. Oranjezon is particularly rich in species due to the variety in landscape types. More than 130 different species of birds have been observed, of which 60 breed in the area. The latest new breeding species and very special for the Netherlands is the Guêpier d'Europe. The landscape is a mix of forest, scrub, old water channels and dune grasslands. A special point is that in addition to deer, Oranjezon also has a large population of fallow deer. Because they like to feast on young shrubs, they contribute to keeping the area open. Other animals, such as Konik horses are also used for this.
In the spring, this is a wonderful area for bird song of species like Rossignol philomèle , Locustelle tachetée, Alouette lulu, Fauvette à tête noire and Rougequeue à front blanc. Also less common species such as Tourterelle des bois, Pouillot siffleur and Loriot d'Europe can be found here. In addition, Oranjezon is the breeding ground for species such as Autour des palombes, Bouvreuil pivoine, Fauvette babillarde, Mésange noire, Bec-croisé des sapins and Pic épeichette. Oranjezon is also a strategically located place to watch the bird migration.

Nederlands: Het prachtige 400 hectare grote duingebied Oranjezon is gelegen in het noordwesten van het Zeeuwse eiland Walcheren. Leuk om vogels te kijken en een aanrader om het te combineren met een lange wandeling. Oranjezon is door de afwisseling in landschapstypen niet alleen erg mooi, maar ook bijzonder soortenrijk. Er zijn meer dan 130 verschillende soorten vogels waargenomen, waarvan er zestig in het gebied broeden. De laatste aanwinst en heel bijzonder voor Nederland is een broedkolonie van de Guêpier d'Europe.
Het landschap is een mix van bos, struweel, oude waterkanalen en duingraslanden. Een bijzonder punt is dat er in Oranjezon naast reeën ook een flinke populatie damherten leeft. Doordat zij zich graag tegoed doen aan jonge struikjes leveren ze een bijdrage aan het open houden van het gebied. Ook andere dieren, zoals Konikpaarden worden hiervoor ingezet.
In het voorjaar is dit een topgebied voor vogelzang van soorten als Rossignol philomèle , Locustelle tachetée, Alouette lulu, Fauvette à tête noire en Rougequeue à front blanc. Ook minder algemene soorten zoals Tourterelle des bois, Pouillot siffleur en Loriot d'Europe kun je hier vinden. Daarnaast is Oranjezon het broedgebied van soorten als Autour des palombes, Bouvreuil pivoine, Fauvette babillarde, Mésange noire, Bec-croisé des sapins en Pic épeichette. Oranjezon is daarnaast een strategisch gelegen plek om de vogeltrek te zien.

The parking lot can be found at Koningin Emmaweg 22 in Vrouwenpolder. The entrance is opposite restaurant Oranjezon. The area is accessible to hikers between sunrise and sunset, only on the marked trails. Five marked walking routes of three to seven kilometers have been set out in the dune area. The map below shows a combined walking route of about 11 km that allows you to explore most of the area. Donors of the Het Zeeuwse Landschap Foundation have free access. Other visitors pay € 1,- p.p., to be paid via the machine at the entrance of the area. The watchtower in the area is closed for renovation.

Nederlands: De parkeerplaats vind je aan de Koningin Emmaweg 22 te Vrouwenpolder. De entree is aan het einde van de doodlopende weg (waaraan ook camping en restaurant Oranjezon liggen). Het gebied is toegankelijk voor wandelaars tussen zonsopkomst en zonsondergang, uitsluitend op de markeerde paden. In het duingebied zijn vijf gemarkeerde wandelroutes uitgezet van drie tot zeven kilometer. Op de kaart beneden zie je een gecombineerde wandelroute van zo'n 11 km waarmee je het grootste gedeelte van het gebied kunt verkennen. Donateurs van Stichting Het Zeeuwse Landschap hebben kosteloos toegang. Overige bezoekers betalen € 1,- p.p, te voldoen via de automaat bij de entree van het gebied. De uitkijktoren in het gebied is vanwege renovatie gesloten.
