A small pond for waders and ducks between two dikes with a concrete wall with nesting holes for Hirondelle de rivage.

Description

The breeding wall for Hirondelle de rivage has been discovered by the birds and is used yearly by a good number of pairs. The pond has often waders like Tournepierre à collier , Bécasseau variable and Chevalier gambette . There can be a variety of ducks, like Canard souchet , Canard chipeau and in winter Canard siffleur . During migration the area will be visited by Bergeronnette grise , Bergeronnette printanière (including the rare Bergeronnette printanière (à tête grise) and Western Yellow Wagtail (flavissima) ) and Pipit farlouse.

Nederlands: Een kleine vijver voor steltlopers en eenden tussen twee dijken met een betonnen muur met nestgaten voor Hirondelle de rivage. De broedmuur voor Hirondelle de rivage is inmiddels ontdekt door de vogels en wordt jaarlijks door een flink aantal paren gebruikt. De vijver heeft vaak steltlopers zoals Tournepierre à collier, Bécasseau variable en Chevalier gambette. Er kan een verscheidenheid aan eenden zijn, zoals Canard souchet, Canard chipeau en in de winter Canard siffleur. Tijdens de trek wordt het gebied bezocht door Bergeronnette grise, Bergeronnette printanière (inclusief de zeldzame Bergeronnette printanière (à tête grise) en Western Yellow Wagtail (flavissima)) en Pipit farlouse .

Je kunt eenvoudig het gehele gebiedje overzien vanaf (de weg langs) de IJsdijk. Deze is toegankelijk voor auto's, fietsen en voetgangers.

The holes in the Sand Martin wall are closed every winter by volunteers from Vogelwerkgroep Texel (www.vwgtexel.nl), so that the Hirondelle de rivage can dig its own nest passages again in the spring to breed.
