Zuidwalbos and Marnewaard are located near the Lauwersmeer National Park area and consists of a training area for tanks and the army. But the area is open to the public for most of the year. Many different bird species can be seen in the area. Habitats you cross include open areas, forests and lakes. In recent years many rarities have been seen, such as Guêpier d'Europe, Rollier d'Europe and Buse pattue.

Nederlands: Leuke wandelroute door de Marnewaard en het Zuidwalbos met een goede kans op leuke waarnemingen. Het maakt deel uit van het Lauwersmeergebied en bestaat uit een oefengebied voor tanks en het leger. Maar het gebied is het grootste gedeelte van het jaar gewoon opengesteld voor publiek. Je loopt door vlaktes, bossen en meren en er zijn veel verschillende vogelsoorten te zien. In de afgelopen jaren zijn er ook veel zeldzaamheden gezien, zoals Guêpier d'Europe, Rollier d'Europe en Buse pattue.

The Marnewaard and the Zuidwalbos are located directly east of the village of Lauwersoog. The parking lot is indicated on the map. Click on a P on the map for directions to a parking spot. Please note, limited parking. The area is closed on days when the army practices. On these days there is a red flag or lamp at the entrance sign. The circular walk indicated on the map is approximately 9 km.
