In Leinwijk the agricultural lands are slowly making way for a flood marsh: the original status of the area around lake Zuidlaardermeer. This landscape is part of the Hunze stream valley system. The marsh functions as a natural purification plant for the Zuidlaardermeer. A 3 kilometer long walking route (see the map) starts in Kropswolde and leads largely through tall grass. Boots come in handy in this wet environment! During the walk and from the watchtower you can see birds like Busard des roseaux, Rousserolle effarvatte, Bruant des roseaux, Gorgebleue à miroir, Oie cendrée, Oie rieuse, Harle piette, Grande Aigrette, Guifette moustac, Bernache du Canada, Butor étoilé, Pygargue à queue blanche and Martin-pêcheur d'Europe.

Nederlands: In Leinwijk maken de landbouwgronden langzaam aan plaats voor een vloedmoeras: de oorspronkelijke status van het gebied rond het Zuidlaardermeer. Dit landschap maakt deel uit van het beekdalsysteem van de Hunze. Het moeras functioneert als een natuurlijke zuiveringsinstallatie voor het Zuidlaardermeer. Een 3 kilometer lange wandelroute (zie kaart) start in Kropswolde en voert grotendeels door hoog gras. Laarzen zijn handig in deze natte omgeving! From Leinwijk Paviljoen de Leine (Meerweg 62, Kropswolde) you largely walk through reed marsh and wet grass. Keep this in mind when choosing your footwear. Halfway through the tour there is a lookout point with a magnificent view over the entire area.
