De Lange Vlieter is a lake along the river Maas near the village of Beegden. There are several patches of forest around the lake. A 5 km walking route runs entirely around the lake, over the green and wooded banks. There are some jetties in the lake. During late autumn and in winter, the lake is attractive for water birds because the deep lake almost always remains open even during severe frost.
In winter, the clear and nutrient-rich water attracts various birds such as Harle bièvre, Garrot à oeil d'or, Grèbe à cou noir, Nette rousse and sometimes rarer species such as Grèbe esclavon, Grèbe jougris, Plongeon catmarin, Plongeon arctique or Plongeon imbrin. Other birds you can see in the area include Fuligule morillon, Fuligule milouin, Grèbe castagneux, Grèbe huppé, Sterne pierregarin, Martin-pêcheur d'Europe, Gros-bec casse-noyaux, Bouvreuil pivoine and several species of gulls.

Nederlands: De Lange Vlieter is een waterplas langs de Maas vlakbij het dorp Beegden. Het meer ontstond door grindwinning en heeft zich door de jaren heen ontwikkeld als een mooi natuur- en recreatiegebied. Rondom de plas liggen verschillende stukjes bos. Een wandelroute van 5 km loopt geheel rondom het meer, over de groene en beboste oevers. Er liggen enkele steigers in het meer.
Tijdens de late herfst en in de winter heeft de plas een grote aantrekkingskracht op watervogels omdat het diepe grindgat ook bij strengere vorst vrijwel altijd openblijft. Het heldere en voedselrijke water trekt in de winter verschillende vogels aan zoals Harle bièvre, Garrot à oeil d'or, Grèbe à cou noir, Nette rousse en soms zeldzamere soorten als Grèbe esclavon, Grèbe jougris, Plongeon catmarin, Plongeon arctique of Plongeon imbrin. Andere vogels die je in het gebied kunt zien zijn onder meer Fuligule morillon, Fuligule milouin, Grèbe castagneux, Grèbe huppé, Sterne pierregarin, Martin-pêcheur d'Europe, Gros-bec casse-noyaux, Bouvreuil pivoine en verschillende soorten meeuwen.

De Lange Vlieter is located west of the city of Roermond near the village of Beegden. Parking is available at the parking lot behind the church on Kerkstraat in Beegden. Click on the P on the map for directions to the parking lot. If you come by public transport, you will find the Heerstraat/Centrum bus stop in Beegden. The birds on the water are usually clearly visible from the 5 km cycle and walking path around the lake. A telescope can be useful for species that are further away.

Nederlands: De Lange Vlieter ligt ten westen van Roermond bij het dorp Beegden. Parkeren kan op het parkeerterrein achter de kerk aan de Kerkstraat in Beegden. Klik op de P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplaats. Kom je met het openbaar vervoer, dan vind je in Beegden bushalte Heerstraat/Centrum. Vanaf het rond de plas gelegen fiets- en wandelpad van 5 km, zijn de vogels op het water meestal goed te zien. Een telescoop kan handig zijn voor de soorten die verder weg zitten.
