Description
Kaldenbroek is a low-lying nature reserve in a silted up old river Maas meander. The area is centred around the old country house Huys Kaldenbroek that is located on a small hill. It is a varied and beautiful little nature reserve. Forests of alder, birch and poplars and a beech avenue alternate with wet grasslands and shallow pools. The stream of Molenbeek flows through the area. Because of all these different habitats, you will find many different bird species in a relatively small area. It is a very good area to see woodpeckers. The Pic épeiche, Pic mar, Pic épeichette, Pic vert and Pic noir all can be observed. Other birds you may encounter in the area include Vanneau huppé, Sittelle torchepot, Chevalier culblanc, Bouvreuil pivoine, Gros-bec casse-noyaux, Autour des palombes, Pipit des arbres, Coucou gris, Fauvette à tête noire, Fauvette des jardins, Gobemouche noir, Grive draine, Tarin des aulnes and Bruant jaune.

Nederlands: Kaldenbroek is een laaggelegen natuurgebied van ongeveer 90 hectare in een verlande oude Maasmeander. Het gebied is eigendom van Het Limburgs Landschap. Op een kleine verhoging ligt het oude landhuis Huys Kaldenbroek dat tegenwoordig fungeert als vakantiewoning. Dit afwisselende natuurgebied is een kleine parel. Bossen van elzen, berken en populieren en een beukenlaan wisselen af met vochtige graslanden en ondiepe poelen. Door het gebied vloeit ook nog de Molenbeek. Door al die verschillende leefgebieden tref je er veel verschillende vogelsoorten op een relatief kleine oppervlakte. Het is bijvoorbeeld een heel goed gebied om spechten te zien. De Pic épeiche, Pic mar, Pic épeichette, Pic vert en Pic noir komen er alle vijf voor. Andere vogels die je in het gebied kunt tegenkomen zijn Vanneau huppé, Sittelle torchepot, Chevalier culblanc, Bouvreuil pivoine, Gros-bec casse-noyaux, Autour des palombes, Pipit des arbres, Coucou gris, Fauvette à tête noire, Fauvette des jardins, Gobemouche noir, Grive draine, Tarin des aulnes en Bruant jaune.

Kaldenbroek is located between the villages of Grubbenvorst and Lottum. There is a beautiful 3.5 km walking route on largely wide unpaved country roads and paths around Kaldenbroek. The easiest way to park is along the fence of the transformer house on the Parallelweg. Press P on the map for directions to the parking spot.

Nederlands: Kaldenbroek ligt precies tussen de dorpen Grubbenvorst en Lottum. Er loopt een mooie wandelroute van 3,5 km over grotendeels brede onverharde landwegen en paden rondom Kaldenbroek. Parkeren kan het gemakkelijkst langs het hek van het transformatorhuis aan de Parallelweg. Druk op P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplek.
