The Hagendoornveld is a dune area with many sea buckthorns - called 'hagedoorns' on the island of Ameland. In late summer and autumn it is full of colored berries and that attracts countless birds. But you can also see many birds during bird migration and in spring. Often seen in the area is Busard des roseaux and sometimes Busard Saint-Martin. On the south side of the Hagendoornveld along the Mochdijk you will find a good place to see waders foraging on the mudflats at the pond that lies there. You can also see various duck species on the water. Birds you can encounter in the area include Courlis cendré, Tadorne de Belon, Tarier pâtre, Traquet motteux, Huîtrier pie, Bécassine des marais, Chevalier gambette, Tarin des aulnes, Locustelle tachetée, Rossignol philomèle, Pipit farlouse, Alouette des champs and Linotte mélodieuse.

Nederlands: Het Hagendoornveld is een duingebied met veel duindoorns – op Ameland ‘hagedoorns’ genoemd. In de nazomer en herfst staat het hier vol gekleurde bessen en dat trekt talloze vogels aan. Maar ook tijdens de vogeltrek en in de lente kun je er veel vogels zien. Vaak wordt hier Busard des roseaux gezien en soms Busard Saint-Martin. Aan de zuidkant van het Hagendoornveld langs de Mochdijk vind je een goede plek om steltlopers te zien foerageren op de slikrandjes bij de plas die daar ligt. Op het water kun je tevens diverse eendensoorten zien. Vogels die je onder meer kunt tegenkomen zijn Courlis cendré, Tadorne de Belon, Tarier pâtre, Traquet motteux, Huîtrier pie, Bécassine des marais, Chevalier gambette, Tarin des aulnes, Pipit farlouse, Alouette des champs, Locustelle tachetée, Rossignol philomèle en Linotte mélodieuse.

Leave the village of Nes in a westerly direction via the 'Verbindingsweg'. After 500 meters you turn right, onto the Westerpad (cycle path). After 800 meters you turn left into the dune area. This is a path with wood chips. After 400 meters you have a view point on your right over the Hagedoornveld and 100 meters further on the left side of the path are the two benches on the dune that form another view point. You can take a 5 km circular walk around the Hagedoornveld. This walk is shown on the map.

Nederlands: Verlaat het dorp Nes in westelijke richting via de Verbindingsweg. Na 500 meter ga je rechtsaf, het Westerpad op (fietspad). Na 800 meter ga je linksaf het duingebied in. Dit is een pad met houtsnippers. Na 400 meter heb je aan je rechterhand een uitzichtpunt over het Hagedoornveld en 100 meter verderop aan de linkerkant van het pad de twee bankjes op het duin die een ander uitzichtpunt vormen. Je kunt een rondwandeling van 5 km rondom het Hagedoornveld maken. Deze wandeling is weergegeven op de kaart.
