The fastest flowing river in the Netherlands provides one of the most beautiful pieces of nature in the Netherlands. De Geul meanders through a green hilly landscape, flanked by willow trees and flower meadows. A meandering river between hedges and hay meadows, hedgerows and hillside forests, hollow roads and orchards along which it is wonderful to walk and enjoy bird watching. The Bergeronnette des ruisseaux and Martin-pêcheur d'Europe breed on the banks of the Geul. Other birds you can see are Chevêche d'Athéna, Milan royal, Pic vert, Gros-bec casse-noyaux, Pie-grièche écorcheur, Rougequeue noir, Fauvette babillarde and Bruant jaune.

Nederlands: Het snelst stromende riviertje van Nederland zorgt voor één van de mooiste stukjes natuur in Nederland. De Geul meandert door een groen heuvellandschap, geflankeerd door wilgenbomen en bloemenweides. Een slingerende rivier tussen hagen en hooilanden, houtwallen en hellingbossen, holle wegen en hoogstamboomgaarden waarlangs het prachtig wandelen en leuk vogels kijken is. De grote gele kwikstaart en de ijsvogel broeden aan de oevers van de Geul. Andere vogels die je kunt zien zijn de steenuil, rode wouw, groene specht, appelvink, grauwe klauwier, zwarte roodstaart, braamsluiper en geelgors.

You can park at the parking lot in Epen. Click on the P in the map for directions to the parking lot. The 6 km long circular walk 'Straight through the Geul valley' of Natuurmonumenten is popular and busy, but also very beautiful and leads through a beautiful part of the Geul valley. The route is also shown on the map below and can be followed in the area itself with red posts.

De 6 km lange rondwandeling 'Dwars door het Geuldal' van Natuurmonumenten is wel populair en druk, maar ook heel mooi en voert door een prachtig stuk van het Geuldal. De route is ook op de kaart beneden te zien en in het gebied zelf te volgen met rode paaltjes.
