Description

"De Regulieren" is a semi open to open landscape, consisting of pastures, small forests and damp meadows. The central part of the area consists of open pastures with cattle. The surroundig fences are often used by Pipit farlouse and Tarier pâtre. In spring, when the vegetation of the pastures is still low, some areas contain damp meadows, which are used by mainly waders and ducks. Petit Gravelot, Combattant varié and Barge à queue noire can often be found on these parts. Pairs of Sarcelle d'hiver can also be found in the small ditches between these pastures. If you're lucky, you can hear Caille des blés from within these pastures. Sometimes large herds of roe deer can be present. In the surrounding forests, species like Pouillot fitis and Fauvette des jardins breed and in the higher bushes species like Fauvette babillarde and Fauvette grisette can be found. Also, Coucou gris and Loriot d'Europe breed in small numbers in the area. The area contains small patches of reedbeds, which are used by Rousserolle effarvatte.

Many birds of prey make use of the area as hunting and breeding habitat. Many Buse variable and Faucon crécerelle can be found in the central part of the area. Faucon hobereau hunts on dragonflies above the wet pastures and, if you're lucky, you'll encounter a Bondrée apivore. Also, Busard des roseaux uses the area to hunt for prey.

In winter, the central part of the area is low in numbers of birds. Sometimes, large flocks of Grive litorne and Grive mauvis can be found here. The forests are used by mixed flocks of tits and finches. Small numbers of Roitelet huppé can also be found within these flocks. The surrounding pastures of the area are often used by large groups of Grande Aigrette.

Accès

There are two parkingspots (see P on the map) to access the area in which you'll be able to make a circular walk of about 4 km. Almost all of the trails are unpaved roads and on most of them you'll just walk on grass. After a rainy period, these roads can be very wet and dirty. There are several vantage points around to take a look over the central part of the area.
