Description
The village of Dalem is located on the northern bank of the river Waal, at the point where the river becomes the Boven-Merwede. The inundation sluice in Dalem dates from about 1840. In peacetime, the sluice served as a drainage sluice to be able to drain the water that flowed into the Betuwe when a dike breached. In times of war, pieces of land were flooded with it. Numerous birds can be seen in the floodplains around the lock.

Nederlands: Het dorp Dalem ligt aan de noordelijke oever van de Waal, op het punt waar de rivier overgaat in de Boven-Merwede. De inundatiesluis in Dalem dateert van circa 1840. In vredestijd diende de sluis als afwateringssluis om het water dat bij een dijkdoorbraak de Betuwe binnenstroomde alsnog te kunnen afvoeren. In tijden van oorlog werden er stukken land mee onder water gezet.. Rondom de sluis zijn er in de uiterwaarden talloze vogels te zien.
