The Botgat is located in the dunes of Noordduinen. It is a depression with a pool where cattle used to drink from. Now there is a round, sparse piece of grassland without forest growth. There is a footpath around the area and there is a small lookout tower. Not long ago this was a shooting range of the Ministry of Defense with buildings and a lot of concrete. That has all been cleaned up and can become nature again. Many Traquet motteux can be found in the area. They breed here. There are also always Vanneau huppé to be seen and it is a good place for Locustelle tachetée. During the migration period there is also a good chance of Tarier des prés, Courlis corlieu and Merle à plastron.

Nederlands: Het duingebied Botgat ligt in de Noordduinen. Klein maar fijn gebied. Een van de schaarse plekken in Nederland waar je goed broedende Traquet motteux kunt zien. Het is een verdieping met een poel waar vroeger het vee uit kon drinken. Nu ligt er een rond, schraal stuk grasland zonder bos-groei. Landschap Noord-Holland heeft er een wandelpad omheen gelegd en een uitkijkpost geplaatst. In het Botgat gebied lag nog niet lang geleden een schietbaan van Defensie, met gebouwtjes en veel beton. Dat is allemaal opgeruimd en mag weer natuur worden. In het gebied zijn veel tapuiten te vinden. Ze broeden hier. Ook zijn er altijd kieviten en vaak tureluur te zien en is het een goede plek voor roodborsttapuit en sprinkhaanzanger. In de trektijd ook kans op paapje, regenwulp en beflijster. Aan de uitkijkpost heb je niet zo heel veel, het zicht is eigenlijk beter als je gewoon de wandelroute volgt.
