Description
Berkheide is a dune area that is part of the Hollandse Duinen National Park. The 1000 hectare large area is fairly open with many dune grasslands and wet dune valleys. The open landscape with grasslands is interspersed here and there with forest or shrubbery. In some places remnants of agricultural use can be seen in the form of former potato fields. More than 300 bird species have already been seen in the area. Birds that you may encounter in the area include Alouette lulu, Pipit des arbres, Tarier pâtre, Pic vert, Pic épeichette, Pic épeiche, Rossignol philomèle and Nette rousse. Nederlands: Berkheide is een duingebied dat onderdeel is van Nationaal Park Hollandse Duinen. Het 1000 ha. grote gebied is vrij open met veel duingraslanden en natte duinvalleien. Het open landschap met graslanden wordt hier en daar afgewisseld door bos of struweel. Op sommige plaatsen zijn restanten van landbouwkundig gebruik te zien in de vorm van voormalige aardappelakkertjes. In april en mei hoor je hier de zang van de nachtegalen die tegen elkaar op zitten te zingen, het is werkelijk een genot voor het oor! Meer dan 300 vogelsoorten zijn er in het gebied al gezien. Vogels die je in het gebied kunt tegenkomen zijn Alouette lulu, Pipit des arbres, Tarier pâtre, Pic vert, Pic épeichette, Pic épeiche, Rossignol philomèle en Nette rousse. For parking drive to the Sportlaan in Katwijk aan Zee and you can easily park there. You can walk into the dune at the Sufi temple. There are several hiking trails through the dune area. On the map is a suggestion for a circular walk of about 6 km.

Nederlands: Je rijdt met de auto naar de Sportlaan te Katwijk aan Zee en je kan daar gemakkelijk parkeren. Je kan het duin inlopen bij de soefitempel, deze is niet te missen. Er kopen diverse wandelpaden door het duingebied. Op de kaart staat een suggestie voor een rondwandeling van ongeveer 6 km.
