Riserva Naturale Crava Morozzo is a well hidden wetland located in a river valley with really good birding. The reserve is not so easy to find if you don’t know the way. This reserve of 300 hectares is protected by LIPU, the Italian BirdLife Partner. It is an oasis of birds in otherwise not to rich bird surroundings. There is a whole series of viewing screens and bird watching hides in the reserve and it is always a surprise what you find here. During migration time anything can turn up here, especially waders and waterbirds. To date, more than 150 different bird species have been seen. Starting fom the parking place after a few hundred meters you arrive at a dam. Check the tall trees on the opposite side of the river here for Loriot d'Europe. On the dam itself look for Martin-pêcheur d'Europe and Chevalier culblanc. Turn left at the dam and from there you walk the main trail through the nature reserve. Nice birds you can find are Héron pourpré , Butor étoilé, Blongios nain, Échasse blanche and Bihoreau gris. You pass various ponds, bird hides and viewing screens. The reserve is not very big, but you can easily spend a whole morning here.

Italiano: La Riserva Naturale Crava Morozzo è una zona umida ben nascosta situata in una valle fluviale, con ottime opportunità per il birdwatching. La riserva non è così facile da trovare se non si conosce la strada. Questa riserva di 300 ettari è protetta dalla LIPU. È un'oasi di uccelli in un ambiente altrimenti non troppo ricco di specie ornitologiche. Nella riserva sono presenti una serie di schermi di osservazione e capanni per il birdwatching ed può essere corprendente ciò che si può trovare qui. Durante la migrazione può capitare di tutto, soprattutto limicoli e uccelli acquatici. Ad oggi sono state osservate più di 150 specie diverse di uccelli. Partendo dal parcheggio, dopo poche centinaia di metri si arriva a una diga.
Guardate tra gli alberi ad alto fusto sulla sponda opposta del fiume per individuare il Loriot d'Europe. Sulla diga stessa, cercate il Martin-pêcheur d'Europe e il Chevalier culblanc. Girate a sinistra alla diga e da lì percorrete il sentiero principale attraverso la riserva naturale. Tra gli uccelli più belli che potete avvistare ci sono l'Héron pourpré, il Butor étoilé, il Blongios nain, il Échasse blanche e la Bihoreau gris. Si passa accanto a vari stagni, ripari per uccelli e schermi di osservazione. La riserva non è molto grande, ma è possibile trascorrere qui un'intera mattinata.

A good place to enter the reserve is the parking right next to the gas station "Gazzola Carburanti" in the village of Morozzo. Click on the P in the map to get directions. On this desolate parking lot you cannot imagine that there is a nature reserve nearby somewhere. But walk to the rear of the parking and a path zigzags down into the reserve. The reserve is open year round from dawn to dusk and the entrance is free. The only way to explore the reserve is by foot.

Italiano: Un buon punto di accesso alla riserva è il parcheggio proprio accanto al distributore di benzina "Gazzola Carburanti" nel paese di Morozzo. Clicca sulla P nella mappa per ottenere le indicazioni stradali. Da questo parcheggio desolato non si può immaginare che ci sia una riserva naturale nelle vicinanze. Ma basta camminare sul retro del parcheggio e un sentiero a zig-zag scende nella riserva. La riserva è aperta tutto l'anno dall'alba al tramonto e l'ingresso è gratuito. L'unico modo per esplorare la riserva è a piedi.

Best time to visit is the early morning when it's tranquil and full of birds. After 10 o'clock dayvisitors arrive (not many) and bird activity drops. There is a small visitor center with a café, but the opening hours are infrequent. A telescope is not really necessary, because most of the time you are close to the birds. But there are also some hides where a scope can be helpful.

Italiano: Il momento migliore per visitare l'area è la mattina presto, quando il clima è tranquillo e pieno di uccelli. Dopo le 10 arrivano i visitatori giornalieri (non molti) e l'attività degli uccelli diminuisce. C'è un piccolo centro visitatori con un bar, ma gli orari di apertura sono poco frequenti. Un telescopio non è realmente necessario, perché la maggior parte del tempo si è vicini agli uccelli. Ci sono però anche alcuni nascondigli dove un cannocchiale può essere utile.
