The "Podere La Querciola" Protected Natural Area is part of the "Stagni della Piana Fiorentina e Pratese" Site of Community Importance. The site's high naturalistic value is linked to the conservation of the biodiversity of the wetlands that once characterized the Florence-Prato-Pistoia Plain, largely lost due to land reclamation, urbanization, pollution, and the introduction of invasive species.
The park is equipped with several observation posts with viewing windows from which you can observe animals without disturbing them, making it an ideal place for birdwatchers and nature photography enthusiasts. There are also other hides for passerine birds. The Podere La Querciola bird checklist lists as many as 250 different species of birds observed (and almost all photographed), including both resident (over 90) and migratory birds: Grèbe castagneux , Guêpier d'Europe , Foulque macroule , Busard des roseaux , Faucon crécerelle , Épervier d'Europe , Blongios nain , Râle d'eau , Échasse blanche , Pic épeiche , Héron cendré , Grande Aigrette , Martin-pêcheur d'Europe , Gallinule poule-d'eau , Chevalier aboyeur , Chevalier arlequin , Bécassine des marais , Aigrette garzette , Barge rousse , Grand Cormoran , Busard cendré , Canard souchet , Fuligule nyroca , Huppe fasciée , Vanneau huppé , Verdier d'Europe , Gros-bec casse-noyaux , Pinson du Nord , Pinson des arbres , Tarin des aulnes, Grèbe à cou noir , Chevalier guignette , Chevalier culblanc , Ibis sacré and more.

Italiano: L' Area Naturale Protetta "Podere La Querciola", fa parte del Sito di Interesse Comunitario "Stagni della Piana Fiorentina e Pratese". L'elevato valore naturalistico del luogo è legato alla conservazione della bio-diversità delle zone umide che caratterizzavano la Piana di Firenze-Prato-Pistoia, in gran parte perduta a causa delle opere di bonifica, dell'urbanizzazione, dell'inquinamento e dell'introduzione di specie invasive.
L'area protetta è costituita da due principali zone umide: lo Stagno della Querciola e il Laghetto dei Cavalieri. Il Parco è provvisto di vari osservatori con feritoie dalle quali è possibile osservare gli animali senza disturbarli, territorio ideale per birdwatcher e appassionati di fotografia naturalistica. Ci sono anche altri capanni adibiti ai passeriformi. La check list degli uccelli del parco della Querciola vede ben 250 specie diverse di volatili osservati (e quasi tutti fotografati) fra stanziali (oltre 90) e di passo.

The area offers opportunities to observe different species throughout the year, but spring and autumn are the best times. The area can be reached from the Calenzano Sesto Fiorentino motorway exit; from Florence via the SS67. When you are in the area, follow the signs for Parco della Piana.
Visitors to the Stagno della Querciola can park at the entrance after the gate; visitors to the Laghetto dei Cavalieri can park on the road next to the lake. Be careful here, as the road is not smooth. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking.
The Parco della Piana is open to visitors on holidays and weekends, Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to sunset during winter time, and from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. during summer time. Free entrance.

Italiano: Si può raggiungere l'area dall'uscita dell'autostrada Calenzano Sesto Fiorentino; oppure per chi giunge da Firenze tramite la SS67. Quando si è in zona seguire le indicazioni per il Parco della Piana.
Chi visita lo Stagno della Querciola può parcheggiare all'entrata dopo il cancello; chi visita il Laghetto dei Cavalieri può parcheggiare sulla strada accanto al lago. Fare attenzione in questo caso, la strada non ha un fondo regolare.
Il Parco della Piana è visitabile nei giorni festivi e nei fine settimana, sabato e domenica dalle ore 8:00 al tramonto nell'ora solare, e dalle ore 8:00 alle 19:00 nell'ora legale. L'ingresso è libero.
